Committees

DC VOAD currently has the following committees

These committees are not tied to a particular disaster, but instead focus on their subject matter throughout the year to create guidance documents, best practices, and other resources for the VOAD membership and the general public. You can find some of those resources here.

The Disaster Case Management (DCM) Committee is a survivor-centered, strengths-based process that assists individuals and families affected by disasters in identifying and accessing the resources and services needed to rebuild their lives. Within a VOAD framework, DCM is typically coordinated among member organizations and in collaboration with government partners like FEMA and state emergency management.

The Donations Management Committee is responsible for organizing and managing unsolicited and solicited donations during disaster situations. This committee ensures that donated goods and services are appropriate, needed, efficiently distributed, and do not hinder the disaster response process.

The Emotional and Spiritual Care Committee is a coordinated effort, often led by trained faith-based and mental health professionals within VOAD, to provide emotional support, spiritual comfort, crisis intervention, and hope to disaster survivors, responders, and volunteers in culturally and religiously appropriate ways.

The Volunteer Management Committee is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing all aspects of volunteer involvement in disaster preparedness, response, and recovery. This committee ensures that volunteers are effectively recruited, trained, deployed, supported, and recognized in a safe and organized manner.
